Japanese UOM 受験生の方 在学生の方 修了生の方 --> Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Agriculture and Engineering Introduction トップページ Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Agriculture and Engineering Introduction Purpose of Institution The University of Miyazaki is expanding its characteristic education and research in the interdisciplinary fields of bioscience and environment science flexibly and in various directions. The Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Agriculture and Engineering, founded on the academic disciplines of agriculture and engineering and achievements gained through cooperation between them, aims at educating advanced technical specialists who will contribute to a technology and knowledge-based society. This will deepen and enrich the integrated education and research field which combine agriculture and engineering and fulfill the integrated power of judgment based on breadth of knowledge. By effectively training our human resources, it will contribute to solve a pressing task in the 21st century involving development of sustainable production systems, the maintenance of social infrastructure necessary for sustainable communities, the development of new functional food working in collaboration with functions of animals, plants and microorganisms, the conversion from biomass in the community to useful energy-rich materials, the creation of functional materials employing nanotechnology, the application and conversion of technology for environmentally-friendly energy, energy saving, the development of highly-computerized production technology and the development of information processing system utilizing high-quality software. Admission Policy 1.Ideal candidates The Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Agriculture and Engineering, University of Miyazaki is currently accepting applications from highly motivated candidates from throughout Japan and overseas who have a strong desire to further their existing knowledge of both agriculture and engineering in an interdisciplinary setting. Ideal candidates should be seeking to advance their skills and knowledge while utilizing their real-world experience. In conjunction with the research areas pursued by our department, we particularly welcome candidates with research interests in the following fields: Development of a sustainable society with a low environmental impact. Production and utilization of biomass. Build a sustainable society through the design and implementation of appropriate conservation policies and development of suitable community infrastructure. Development of safe and secure systems and promote sustainable biological production methods. Development of new and improved ways of utilizing microorganisms, plants, and animals. Conducting post-genome research in the areas of food production, environment, and health. Development of a sustainable aquaculture methods and effective management of marine resources. Improved design of energy conversion systems through the development of new materials. Development of materials and structural designs for application in manufacturing and engineering industries. Development of new bioinformatics, network, hardware and software technologies. 2.Basic selection policy Successful candidates will be selected on merit based on the evaluation procedures outlined below. Candidates' academic records, research history, intended period of study, and other factors will also be taken into consideration. 〔Evaluation Procedures〕 Entrance examinations to be held several times within the same academic year. Examination format (oral only or oral and written) to be determined based on the candidate's status (General Selection, Selection for Working Members of Society or Overseas Students) . Application materials will be reviewed and used in combination with examination results to comprehensively evaluate applicants' abilities, aptitude, and motivation. Curriculum Policy The Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Agriculture and Engineering, University of Miyazaki, constitutes a curriculum that is bound by the following policies to ensure that the doctors graduating from our university have comprehensive and globally valued technical knowledge and have inculcated a strong sense of ethics. The course should integrate the fields of engineering and agriculture. The course should instill a strong sense of ethics in students while allowing them to learn and gain expertise in advanced technologies. The course should enable students to gain highly specialized knowledge in their choice of subjects. The course should improve the communication skills of students to enable them to impart and implement their expertise as a scientist. The course should include suitable training material on publishing academic papers. *Same for all educational course Diploma Policy The Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Agriculture and Engineering, University of Miyazaki, awards the doctoral degree to students who have gained experience in research guidance, have resided in the school for the designated number of years, have successfully passed the examinations, and have published their doctoral thesis. As a general rule, the following requirements must be satisfied before completing the doctoral program. High ethical standards as a highly specialized engineer or researcher. The ability to learn high specialized knowledge spontaneously. Communication and presentation skills necessary for participating in international conferences. The ability to conceptualize and drive a research program and to summarize the research findings. Comprehensive knowledge to be able to integrate the fields of engineering and agriculture. A high level of analytical ability and in-depth knowledge of experimental techniques within the respective areas of specialization. There are additional requirements for each course. Department of Environment and Resource Science, Course of Environmentally Harmonized Technology and Science To deal with the current environmental issues such as the decline of natural resources, degradation of natural and living environments, and food supply crisis, one or more of the following abilities are required to be awarded a doctoral degree. Proven the ability to recognize landscapes which consist of cities, agricultural lands, and forests as integrated circulating and symbiotic systems. Proven the ability to develop technologies for saving, reusing, and recycling resources. Proven the ability to develop appropriate agricultural and/or industrial production systems for efficient resource use and for maintaining symbiotic environment. Proven the ability to develop safe and efficient agricultural and/or industrial production systems with a low environmental impact. Proven the ability of efficient use of animal and plant resources. Proven the ability to elucidate the dynamics of ecosystems from the viewpoint of production processes of animals and plants. Proven the ability to develop safe and sustainable production systems for biological product. Department of Environment and Resource Science, Course of Sustainable Agricultural Technology and Science To deal with the current environmental issues such as the decline of natural resources, degradation of natural and living environments, and food supply crisis, one or more of the following abilities are required to be awarded a doctoral degree. Department of Applied Biological Science, Course of Bioscience and Biotechnology From the viewpoint of addressing the food, energy, and environmental issues affecting this region and the international community, the doctoral degree will be awarded to researchers and experts with any of the following abilities: Ability to understand the various functions of animals, plants, and bacteria and marine biological resources. Ability to develop and analyze energy conservation technologies. Comprehensive ability, along with knowledge, to integrate the fields of health services and food science. Ability to use regional biomass resources and microorganisms to curb the depredation of the environment by pollutants. Department of Applied Biological Science, Course of Marine Biological Science From the viewpoint of addressing the food, energy, and environmental issues affecting this region and the international community, the doctoral degree will be awarded to researchers and experts with any of the following abilities: Ability to understand the various functions of animals, plants, and bacteria and marine biological resources. Comprehensive ability, along with knowledge, to integrate the fields of health services and food science. Ability to use regional biomass resources and microorganisms to curb the depredation of the environment by pollutants. Ability to manage and conserve fishery resources by understanding aquatic ecosystems. Ability to propose aquaculture systems that maintain a balance between fisheries production and aquatic environment conservation. Department of Materials and Informatics, Course of Advanced Materials and Energy From the standpoint of developing an environmentally conscious, a recycling-based, and a highly information-oriented society, the doctoral degree will be awarded to researchers and experts with any of the following abilities: Ability to create new environment-friendly materials. Ability to develop and analyze energy conservation technologies. Ability to develop advanced energy-saving and highly information-oriented production technologies. Department of Materials and Informatics, Course of Production Technology From the standpoint of developing an environmentally conscious, a recycling-based, and a highly information-oriented society, the doctoral degree will be awarded to researchers and experts with the following abilities: Ability to develop advanced energy-saving and highly information-oriented production technologies. Ability to solve or develop a solution for information processing by utilizing advanced algorithms and software. Department of Materials and Informatics, Course of Computer Science and Bio-informatics From the standpoint of developing an environmentally conscious, a recycling-based, and a highly information-oriented society, the doctoral degree will be awarded to researchers and experts with the following abilities: Ability to solve or develop a solution for information processing by utilizing advanced algorithms and software. Ability to construct a mathematical model.
